Midnight in Paris

Brillant, witty, unpredictable, surprising. This film was a hit with me at least! I have been hearing a lot of great reviews for Midnight in Paris and I finally viewed it for myself. I actually did not know what the movie was about, just that it was so good according to my friends. So, after baking some yummy brownies along with warm hot chocolate, I snuggled up next to my Chilean man and began viewing the movie.

First of all, I love Owen Wilson as an actor. He never ceases to amuse me with his dry humor. His character in Woody Allen's film was definitely unique. I think most of us can say we know someone that was probably born in the wrong era, forever desiring things of years past. Gil is unfortunately attached to Inez (Rachel McAdams) and her upscale lifestyle growing up in a wealthy family. The adventure begins when Gil spends his magical nights in Paris with the likes of Picasso, Bunuel, Dali, and even one of Picasso's mistresses.

I went into geek mode when these famous artists discussed their works and lives intertwining within Paris. Claudio and I had several good laughs when a new famous character appeared on screen. I have to say, Woody Allen did a splendid job casting actors for these personalities. I knew Adrien Brody was Dali before he even said a word!

I applaud Woody Allen for this movie and encourage you to watch if you haven't already! Any other movie suggestions?

"Meet Me at the Center of the Earth"

Pulsating pink human hair, snuggly polar bears in sweaters, clanking children's toys, sparkling sequins dancing on the walls. The crowd roamed the galleries, others found dancing to the DJ's mixed tunes to be entertaining, I myself enjoyed a few snacks as I prepared to see the work of Chicago-based artist Nick Cave. Claudio and I ventured out last Friday night to the member's only opening at the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Though the rain started to turn into ice, there was a decent crowd throughout the night to see the works of this innovative artist. If you have not yet seen his pieces, I encourage you to come to the museum to take a look for yourself. Nick Cave creates "Soundsuits," named because of the sounds they make when one is wearing them. These human-like suits are created with many different materials including human hair, buttons, children's toys, old sweaters and hats, this list goes on. He even created a couple polar bears and beavers!

Cave's work is inspiring to say the least. There are many political overtones to his work, speaking of his own background, childhood, and recycling reusing objects as mentioned before. I find that through his work he encourages others to make "noise" if they want to make a difference. Whether his ideas resonate with you, or the Soundsuits prove to be aesthetically stimulating, his works are a must-see by anyone and everyone, not just the art enthusiast.

Did I mention Cave's perfomances? His Soundsuits are created to be worn, not just viewed on display. So, watch out Cincinnati! The Soundsuits will be invading the city a few times this month. You just might find yourself walking alongside a dancing piece of his work!

The Brooklyn Girls

The Brooklyn Girls, a legacy within the Delta Eta Phi Mu chapter at Georgetown College, and I like to think on campus too. They were loved by some, thought of skeptically by others. Their origin was unknown, it seemed to have come from a unique sense of humor. The Brooklyn Girls' story dates back to about 2008 or 2009 when I, myself spoke many accents as a source of entertainment. The Brooklyn accent spread to two others, known commonly by the names of Ciera and Erica (aka Diane and Polly).

This unlikely relationship and creation of characters began to grow at a rapid pace. The Brooklyn Girls' lifestyles began to unfold near a street with the name Jackson. On this street, the Brooklyn Girls made their living "accomdating" others. Their occupation was quite ambiguous in description, but by their conversations others could use their common sense to realize what exactly it comprised of.

They often referred to their homeland Brooklyn, never swaying in their native vernacular. They spoke of the bridge quite often, of Tony's pizza shop, seeing their folks for the holidays. They also had a little friend by the name of Molly whom made her living accross town on Mulberry. The Brooklyn Girls even appeared on stage at their peak of popularity (or imfamity some might say). Though they have dispersed to other career paths, they will not be forgotten by each other nor those of past company.

The Brooklyn Girls still see each other from time to time and reminisce of the golden years. Like I, Veronica, always say, there's always a Jackson Street somewhere. And though the Phi Tau girls may claim to work the corner of Dudley and Jackson, we all know the Brooklyn Girls own that street and always will.

Designing

I recently moved into a new apartment and I can't wait to get it completely decorated the way I want. I have been working on a few things but there is so much more to do. I am still looking for a rectangular dining table. If you know where I could look or if you have one, please let me know! I have been looking on Pinterest to get some ideas. If you know of a cool thrift store in the NKY area, let me know. Once I get everything settled, I'd love the have a house-warming party :)

Something New and Fresh

I have been working really hard on finding a way to get involved in the arts for several months now. Finally, all the hardwork paid off.  I recently accepted a job at the Cincinnati Art Museum working with visitor services. I am so thankful for finally being able to get my foot in the door and get some more experience. So far I just love being in a museum surrounded by so many great works of art.

If you're in the area or plan on visiting, make sure you check out this new exhibition by Nick Cave. I was not familiar with the artist myself but I am looking foward to seeing his works.
