I am very nervous about this endeavor. I am wondering if I will be accepted into a program without an art history degree under my belt but I will give it a try anyway. I am taking the GRE in September to get that out of the way. I am also working on a research paper as part of my applications.
I have decided to focus on the Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo. You may or may not have heard of him but he was alive during the same time as Rivera, Khalo, and other Mexican muralists. Here is one of his pieces:
I think I will focus on two groups of paintings created by Tamayo: portraits of his first love Maria Izquierdo, another Mexican artist, and his later wife Olga. These portraits are quite different so I would like to explore these differences and similarities in his work.
If you have any comments about this topic, send them my way!
